According to a post on the Santa Clarita Sheriff Station Facebook page, deputies on the freeway spotted a vehicle that was reported stolen, and happened upon a couple suspected drug-dealers inside. The post reads:
‘Take every opportunity to catch a crook.’ Deputies were traveling on the I-5 freeway Saturday afternoon when they spotted a stolen BMW. Instead of taking the off-ramp to Valencia, they followed the suspected vehicle all the way to the Gorman area, where a felony traffic stop was conducted at Smokey Bear Road. The driver and passenger were two men in their 20’s from the Los Angeles area. In addition to being detained for a grand theft auto investigation that stemmed from San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department, the pair were also found to be in possession of cocaine and a large amount of U.S. currency. Both men were arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. This case remains an active investigation by detectives.”
Since the investigation is ongoing, a full list of charges hasn’t been released. However, it’s likely that at least one of the men in the vehicle will be facing grand theft auto charges under California Penal Code 487(d)(1) as well as one of California’s drug crimes. Whether it’s HS 11351 – possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell or HS 11350 – possession of a controlled substance, is as yet undetermined.
Regardless, the suspects are facing possible penalties that include several years in California state prison.
