The Santa Clarita Sheriff Station is located in the heart of the Santa Clarita Valley, but deputies stationed there patrol s large area. When someone is arrested in their jurisdiction, they are taken to the Santa Clarita Sheriff Sation to undergo booking and processing. Once complete, bail will be set for those who are eligible and it will be possible to obtain their release via bail bond.
The on-site jail is small, with room for only about 40 inmates. Additionally, it isn’t intended for the long-term housing of inmates. As such, if an inmate remains at the Santa Clarita Sheriff Station Jail for more than 72-hours, or if the jail becomes overcrowded, it’s likely they will be transferred to a larger, long-term holding facility downtown. Men are sent to Twin Towers and women are sent to the Lynwood Jail.
Upon transfer, inmates will have to go through another round of processing at the new facility, and will likely be ineligible for bail for anywhere from 12 to 24-hours while doing so. As such, to get them out of jail as fast as possible, it’s usually best to start the bail bond process while they’re still located at the Santa Clarita Sheriff Station Jail.
Options for Release from Jail
A bail bond isn’t the only way to get someone out of jail. Depending on the circumstances of their arrest, an individual may also be eligible for:
- Cash Bonds – Once bail is set, it’s possible to take the full amount of bail to the court clerk, pay it, and secure an individual’s release from custody. However, the full amount of bail can not only be expensive, but it can only be paid during court business hours. As such, those who are taken into custody after the court closes, or over the weekend, will have to remain there until the next business day if they want to be released via cash bond.
- Property Bonds – A piece of property can be put up in lieu of bail money provided that the owner of that property holds equity in it totaling at least 150% of the full amount of bail. The courts are very, very thorough in the appraisal and approval process for property bonds, and a person can remain in jail for several weeks – if not longer – while the transaction processes.
- Own Recognizance – When someone is arrested, it’s possible for them to obtain their own release by providing the judge with a written promise to return to court at the appointed date and time. Own recognizance is usually reserved for low-level, non-violent offenses and for people with no prior criminal history.
- Citation Release – Used for minor infractions, a citation release is similar to being released on one’s own recognizance with the exception being that they do not need to provide a written promise to return to court at the appointed date and time.
Why Use a Bail Bond?
Unlike the other options for release, we can help you bail someone out of jail any time of day or night. Also, bail bonds pair cost-effectiveness with their expedience. The cost of a bail bond is only 10% of the total bail amount. So, if bail is set at $10,000, a bail bond will cost only $1,000.
