SCV Sheriff Station Report: Woman Saved, Attempted Rapist Arrested

According to a post on the Santa Clarita Sheriff Station’s Facebook page, deputies recently thwarted what could have been a terrible crime. The post reads:

“Deputies quickly save Canyon Country woman from attempted rapist. Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call regarding a possible burglary in the 18000 block of Soledad Canyon Road shortly after 8:00 a.m. Thursday, February 7.

Upon deputies’ arrival, they observed the suspect, a male Hispanic adult, in close proximity to the victim, a female adult, near an open door of the victim’s vehicle. The suspect was detained pending a burglary investigation.

Deputies learned that the victim was getting ready to take her son to school when she heard the sound of glass breaking in her residence. The victim went outside to check the source of the noise and was allegedly approached by the suspect who had broken one of her windows. The suspect was physically and verbally aggressive with the victim, demanding to have sex. A struggle ensued and the suspect moved the victim towards her vehicle as the victim yelled at her son to call 911. Deputies were notified of the emergent call, and responded immediately.

Suspect Daniel Herrera, 21, of Canyon Country, was arrested by deputies on charges of attempt rape, burglary and kidnapping. The suspect was unknown to the victim. Herrera was transported and booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, where he is being held on $250,000 bail.

This is an active investigation and no other information is being released at this time.
